Holistic Life Tools for Happiness

One of the things people look for outside of themselves is happiness. I sometimes wonder why they look for something outside of themselves. Happiness is a do it yourself job. It has nothing to do with others. Your happiness is determined by you only. How can we be happy?

If you want to be happy, you must start with what makes you happy. The things that you control let us start with this idea. Let us list the things that make us happy. How about going to the movies? We can control that and we can do it when we chose to. Reading a good book, which captures our imagination, can make us happier. Some people really love good food, but I wouldn’t recommend it daily! How about putting on one of your favorite songs? It is different for everyone, but this seems like a good place to start.

Another technique would be what makes other people happy. We at times become happier when we do something for others, such as donate to a charity or do some voluntary work. Calling a friend and talking old times helps people get their mind off their troubles. The old standby of helping someone across the street and you can expand on this.

You can shine from where you are. How about forming a club on something that makes you happy? You could write motivational or inspirational quotes on slips of paper and give them out to people who look like they need it! Okay that is sort of condescending but I was just being funny. Yet, keeping these little thoughts of the day will help and passing them out to your everyday encounters would make you feel contributory toward the community. There is nothing wrong is raising the happiness awareness in the community.

Make a list of the things that you really like about yourself. Your sense of humor, your ability to do something really well, whatever you can think of. How about a list of things that you are grateful for? Your home, being alive, having friends, you favorite piece of furniture, are some places to start your list. Think about the things that make you laugh, be grateful for your favorite comedians. You can send thank you notes to people who have helped you one way or another. Happiness is a state of mind; it is something that you control completely. No one can make you unhappy, only you can give them permission to do so.

There are books written on the subject of happiness. You can read those as well to increase your happiness factor. There is no reason why you should not ever be happy. Even in the worse positions, there is always something you can be grateful for. If you are overweight, you can be grateful and happy that you are not weighing 100 pounds more, that is a start. If you are broke, look for someone is who even more broke than, that should lift your spirits!

You see there are plenty of ways to be happier, I believe if you look for them you will find them. The more you look the more you will find, because that is what you are looking for. Maybe there is something that your job offers that really does make you happy, think of those things. The bottom line is that no one makes you happy; it is only you that can make it happen.
